Tuesday I attended David Harness' new night at Liquid, "Taboo." I was expecting to find a packed club full of sweaty ravers, tweakers and sexy girls in high heels crammed into this tiny space, but instead found it pleasantly sparse inside. I'm sure that this is because the night has only been going on for four weeks (as of September 21, 1999) and the word isn't out yet. I always seem to be on the upward swing of clubs nights' popularity. It's a curse, being savvy. A true curse. Although there weren't a ton of people there, the crowd was right on. It was made up of the folks you would expect from a David Harnes night - mostly gay boys of various ethnicities, but quality house heads all around. They're good looking and dressed up to get down. It's a rare opportunity when there is room on the dancefloor at Liquid so I took advantage. The total dance area is only about ten feet square and in the path to the bathroom, so normally it is a bumpy, pushy experience just trying to shake your tushy in there. I made sure that my tushy went home shaken. On this night David Harness spun his usual blend of deep and rhythmic house. Most of the tracks he played were a few years old, rather than the current hits. It was good to hear the classics, but it left me hungry for something a bit more recently released. I suppose that's what you do when you're the DJ of a new night and you want to make sure that every person in the bar gravitates towards the dancefloor. He did that like a pro. I recommend this night to those who enjoy good tunes and a good crowd on a Tuesday night. Come down and help it take off.
