Site for Sore Eyes

New year = new look. As much as I would love to run down to the smart shops on Hayes Street and spend thousands on fancy frocks and swinging suits, my bank account just won't let me. And sometimes you need to ease into new styles or new looks. So I chose the easy way out--I decided to buy a new pair of glasses. Glasses can easily update your look quicker than a new haircut and with less guesswork and pain. (You don't like the glasses, just put them back, but it can take over six months to grow out those fringe bangs that are so popular right now…).

Now that I decided to buy a pair of glasses, I had to decide where to go. I bought my last pair of glasses at a tony glasses shop in the Marina, where these beautiful women ignored me and showered compliments on any male that walked in the door. Any pair of glasses I put on, they thought I looked "awesome" in them or "super-cool!" What they forgot to mention was that they were painfully expensive.

This time, my friend suggested I check out Site for Sore Eyes. (You know, the place that has the ongoing advertisement in the Bay Guardian-you can pick up this week's Guardian and clip the coupon offering a certain percentage off frames, etc. I balked at first, but my friend drove me there and I was amazed at the selection. They had the hottest styles: Modus, Armani, etc. and someone actually offered to help me! Rachael (at the store on Market Street) not only helped me find a decent pair of glasses, but also called the makers in Paris to see whether or not certain frame style had been discontinued. She even gave my friend who recommended me to Site for Sore Eyes a 20 percent discount on her next purchase at the store and put it in the company's computer, so my friend doesn't have to deal with any paper or special coupons.

And let's talk about price. I spent under $400 and got a new pair of glasses, a pair of prescription sunglasses and six months worth of daily wear contacts. $400 is how much my one pair of glasses cost at the other shop.

So grab the Bay Guardian and take your holiday money and bonus to Site for Sore Eyes and make an investment in you, but still have enough to buy a few nice shirts at the winter clearance sales on Hayes Street.
