Nish's San Francisco Favorites

SFMOMA

When I moved from Manhattan to SF, I believed that I was not going to find progressive art ever again. Generally speaking, I’ve yet to find a gallery that truly rocks consistently, although Minna Street is close (forgive me but the Union Square galleries bore me, and other galleries that have shown good work lack their own sense of character). So you can imagine that I approached the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) with some degree of trepidation.

But how wrong I was!

To this day, I am continuously impressed at SFMOMA’s ability to bring the important works of the twentieth century to our city. Smaller in size and scope than the New York location, the exhibits still manage to be intriguing and at the forefront of art that matters. The special exhibitions demand at least one visit a month.
