Nish's San Francisco Favorites

Girl Watching on Fillmore, Hayes, or Union Streets

While the average newcomer or tourist goes to Union Square for shopping, the real action is on these three trendy streets. While they don’t quite match up to New York’s SoHo district, they do manage to keep San Franciscans on the cusp of some sense of the high life.

Each street is a small strip of hot restaurants, chic boutiques, and sexy people -- I go there mostly for the last of the three. Walk these streets and you will find the slender and tender, the striking and fierce, the exotic and well manicured. Whether it’s twenty-two year-old club girls or thirty-something women in heat, the view is consistently maddening and exhilarating.
