The atmosphere at Sushi Groove South

From mega-promoters Martel & Nabiel comes the second Sushi Groove, this time down in SOMA. The first time I went here I felt like I was being let into a secret underground retreat for the beautiful and fashionable. Indeed the clientele are gorgeous and well groomed, bedecked typically in black. But surprisingly I have yet to sample a taste of attitude or elitism, and that can be attributed to the hosts with the most.

Both Martel and Nabiel, despite criticism from their hipster friends, have stayed true to their vision for a one-party-for-all concept. Their line of clubs, events, and restaurants attract all sorts of party people, from clubbers and ravers, to scensters and wannabes, and that’s a good thing. From the bartenders to the wait staff, everyone is friendly and genuinely happy to be there.

Oh yeah, did I mention that the sushi here is probably the best I’ve had in San Francisco? Prepared in a minimalist style, the fish is constantly high-grade and inventive. Do not leave without trying a cold unfiltered sake (hint: it’s white in color).
