Joy has been going strong for a while now and it still packs in the kids. The crowd is beautiful and more mixed than gay as this night was originally promoted. The music spun by DJ's Mouse and Travis is first-rate and energy-filled. That being said, I really hate going to this overcrowded night. Liquid is the size of a big one-bedroom apartment and was not designed to hold 200 people. It takes about 10 minutes to squeeze through from one end of the place to the other. The bathroom line is always long, as is the wait. This is because some tweakers don't realize that Monday is the first day of the week as opposed of the third day of the weekend. It would be more efficient to go around the corner to Capp Street and pee on a hooker if they weren't charging a cover at the door. The music makes you want to get down. The problem is finding the space required for this activity. Even if you thrust your way onto the miniscule dancefloor, you will be greeted by people throwing their hands in the air like they just don't care that they are putting their armpit in your face. One would assume that these people are dressed to kill given the vibe they throw off, but one doesn't have the 3 feet of free space necessary to view the entirety of another's outfit. Secretly, I love this night. I go back every few months to check its status. I honestly hope that the crowd grows tired of it, or that a newer, hipper club opens and pulls people away. I'd even settle for sabotage if it would thin the place out. I hate this night because all the elements are there - the hip crowd, great music, and (I should mention) strong drinks. This would be my ideal night out if it weren't unbearably crowded. In the meantime, I'll keep checking in and hoping that one day I will be able to enjoy it without getting squished. |
