SUNDAY NIGHTS

Melinda takes you on this week's Music Bender

If I could accurately explain to you the type of music that goes on at the Beauty Bar every Sunday night. . . . . well, it would be a miracle, because I have no clue how to describe the stuff that DJ Phaedra plays. It’s crazy; it’s old; it’s obscure; it’s incredible; it’s like nothing that I’ve ever heard before and I love all of it.

If my mother had been with me there last Sunday night, she would have said, "Stop pestering the DJ, dear." But she wasn’t, so I did. I had to know what the songs were -- quirky and soothing and wonderfully melodic all at the same time. There were songs off soundtracks from the 50’s and 60’s, and French singers whose names I can’t remember . . . . . . and what else? I can’t remember -- the three Beauty Bar specialty cocktails I had did a good job of erasing everything that Phaedra told me.

So you have to go hear it to understand what I mean, and you will be as amazed and in love with the sounds as I am. Take my word for it. Trust me. And while you’re there, have the bartender (her name is Margarita) mix you one or two or three or four of those yummy girly drinks because they are the perfect compliment to the eclectic sweetness of DJ Phaedra.
