I would have to admit that I am a bit surprised with the number of people out there who head out into the world every morning without a generous helping of cereal, toast, and other breakfast goodies. Shame on you, or should I say me. I myself am a horrible by-product of this fast-paced no-time-to-eat-breakfast mentality. I guess it could very well be because breakfast just doesn’t enthuse me much. The soggy, tired bowls of corn flakes and frosty mini wheats set me off to pretty much a tired and weary kind of day. Pretty sad but true. Enough said.

There is a place though just right down the street from work that has changed my view of what a good breakfast joint is all about. I met the owners, Don and Shirley Wong, and I have to say that these two are so darn cute and sweet it makes waking up at those early hours in the morning to take a walk down to their place all that much more worth the while. Heck, you may learn a trick or two on how to last as long as they have together!

Café Delight is pretty much that…a delight! Their menus range from coffee, juices, breakfast bagels with egg, Denver & mushroom omelettes and scrambled eggs pretty much any way you like them, Danishes, French toast, pancakes, and Shirley’s mean hash browns. They even have great lunch items including sumptuous grilled fresh fish & veggie burgers, Philly cheesesteaks, bacon & egg sandwiches, and salads. Don takes those orders and Shirley whips them up fast. The wait is never a problem and most get the breakfast items to go. Don’s taken out a lot of time on this place to make sure he gives people what they want in a breakfast/lunch place. He’s spent a lot of time and hard-earned money to make Café Delight what it is today. This place has amazing food, amazing people, a great atmosphere, and is a most superb and impressive place for your luncheon excursions. This is as good as breakfast places get in downtown Oakland. Don’t miss it! More importantly, don’t forget your breakfast!
