Agave Grill & Cantina

2033 North Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA

Mexican food is more diverse than the typical excursion to your local Taco Bell. In fact if you allow yourself to dig deep enough into your pocket, you're bound to find change for a bit pricier yet unforgettable experience in authentic Mexican dining. Ahh, it brings back wondrous tropical memories for me. If you haven't been to Mexico or even tried authentic Mexican food then I most understandably pity you. What a shame!

It's time to get a genuine taste for what it means to experience quality Mexican cuisine. No offense for the Chalupas or Nachos Bellgrandes "to-go" but Agave Grill and Cantina truly takes you to the inviting, exotic, and warm atmosphere Mexico is so famous for. The beauty, skill, craftsmanship, and colors make this restaurant a most welcoming place for a wide range of social gatherings ranging from birthdays to practically any special occasion you desire. The walls are a lush tangerine orange mixed in with subtle reds and yellows and tastefully decorated with paintings of the richness and splendor of Mexican culture. Situated near the entrance is a more upbeat lounge/bar than you would ever find at those more mainstream and notably typical and unimaginative chain restaurants. Local bands with a true gift for music play weekly at Agave bringing to the public more than merely a taste for the culture. It's an experience that truly takes you there.

Many of the traditional dishes are items I highly recommend for the mere fact that they are not only well prepared, fresh, well flavored and seasoned but the servings are by far more than is expected. Don't even think about grabbing a snack before coming here because chances are you won't even be able to finish the plate of food you're going to end up ordering. The dishes include: Enchiladas de Mole, Tamales Colorado, Camarones, Enchiladas del Mar, and Baja Taco. My personal favorite is the Enchiladas de Mole that is served and smothered in Monterey Jack cheese, freshly chopped and sprinkled red onions, dried oregano, and cool sour cream. A major combination plate that I recommend is the Enchiladas del Mar. This dish comes with both rock shrimp and fish topped with Monterey Jack, guacamole, sour cream, and Agave's special spinach cream sauce to add that extra zest to this entrée. Agave is known for the creativity and talent of their many chefs who work painstakingly to bring forth new Mexican dishes and seasonal specials, and keep customers coming back to try many of the new additions to their menu. It is most definitely worth your while to bring a group of friends to this most classy Mexican dining establishment in the heart of the quaint city of Walnut Creek.
