The Daily Grill is on Geary Street a block away from A.C.T. and just a few blocks from all the shopping wonder that is Union Square.

It serves hearty, substantial fare, perfect for fortifying oneself either in the middle of a shopping day or before a lengthy theatrical experience. They serve everything from a nice pecan, gorgonzola, endive salad to pastas to a variety of sandwiches to a pretty damn good spinach-artichoke dip (always one of my measures of a good restaurant.)

It's not particularly economical, but nor is it out of the realm of reasonable, especially for this downtown, touristy locale. And speaking of that, The Daily Grill is not the place to come to watch the hustle and bustle of downtown SF while grabbing a bite. You will walk into the long, and rather dark restaurant, and be removedfrom that hustle and bustle. Which is okay too, if that's what you're in the mood for.

Their service is efficient and unobtrusive. I was there with a group of 5, and we must have arrived individually over the course of almost 30 minutes. The wait staff didn't blink an eye. We always had bread, water, drinks etc. We never had to flag anyone down. And we got in and out of there in about an hour, including dessert and coffee.

The Daily Grill makes a suitable stand-by option for meals in this area when you haven't gotten around to choosing something more creative and different. (And being able to reserve online is always a plus.)
