Let me put it this way - you don't have to dress up to go to Cassidy's. It's a beer-drinkers bar. And the selection of beer is impressive - 30 beers on tap, ranging from Guinness to Spaten to Morgan Hill's own Pappy Jaspars. I saw glasses for martinis at the bar, but not one person was drinking one, if you get my drift. The crowd is a mix, though the Marina set is outnumbered by the bicycle courier set. The youth hostel across the street supplies a significant contingency, as there are Scandinavian or European travellers on any given night. You can expect to see tattoos and hear foreign accents. Cassidy's is a large bar, which means it is possible to walk around with minimal squeezing. The decor is not particularly Irish, and mostly consists of dark wood panelling and neon beer signs. The bar itself is wooden, and a huge oblong island in the middle of the joint. The service is attentive, friendly and experienced at navigating the wide selection of draught beers for the undecided. They don't serve any food, though there are plenty of restaurants within a 2 block radius, including Julie's Supper Club and Basil. I spent a half and hour being mesmerized by the juke box. It ranges from Tricky to Johnny Cash and includes the Repo Man Soundtrack (remember that?) There are two large pool tables, and pool is free on Wednesdays. Catching a cab at closing time is a cinch. Open Daily: 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. |
