Berkeley Bowl

2020 Oregon St, Berkeley

I called up Leslie on the way home yesterday. "Hello, why haven't you insisted I go to the Berkeley Bowl immediately? You're not a very good friend."

Of course, I was joking. She's been trying to get me to haul my bum over the Bay Bridge to go grocery shopping for years. I've keenly ignored her.

Run, do not walk. To Berkeley Bowl.

Fiddleheads! They have fiddleheads, and yellow squash smaller than my pinkie finger, and cacti and strawberries that are so ripe but not rotten. The Bowl has been around for about 25 years, and particularly specializes in fresh goods and a yoga-centric clientele. The produce section is mammoth. The customers are crunchy. If you can't find it here, you'd better just grow it yourself. You compost, right? The meats and fish departments are fine, and the prices are *very* good. The bulk food section? Great! Wheat-free, gluten-free, vegan, sugar-free, peanut-free, no-growey-mold trail mix and the like. Go early in the morning. The aisle traffic is loony.
