Probably the best pies for sale within San Francisco, and unfortunately just about the most expensive. Bepples is a quaint little shop almost inside the front dining room of Perry's. When their gorgeous crumb pies are placed tauntingly in the screened window facing out onto the sidewalk you'll find the aroma alone is worth a visit. I've watched friends leaving neighborhood restaurants fully sated then stop in their tracks at that intoxicating whiff. Unable to fight off their gluttony, they walk in and plunk down almost $20 for a Dutch crumb peach pie. One look and you know it's gonna be better than Mom ever made, and countless people agree. Bepples sells out quickly, and every time I finally succumb they're out of the pie I wanted. I guess I should be grateful, because I just hate spending such a small fortune for pie. There are a few scarce sidewalk tables to grab and from which you can wolf down your slice and coffee, but it's cramped and uncomfortable. I always break down and get my treat to go. I really have never had any pies this good. I highly recommend Bepples. Stu Smith Comments and suggestions to Stusmith97@aol.com |
