One of the major Asian art collections in America. No, not just America, but the world. Much of the collection was donated by Avery Brundage, a Chicago millionaire who had an affinity for anything Asian. He collected like a madman!

The museum is infamous for its jade collection. Jades the size of loaves of bread! Of course, the detail of the jades is amazing.

The next big exhibition coming up at the museum is The Golden Age of Chinese Archaelogy which will be running from June 2000-September. (Please note that the jades will not be on show during this time.)

The museum will be moving down to the Civic Center. Fortunately, this will give the museum far more space which is much needed. With almost 80% of the museum's collection stored down in the basement, it's time for the art to get a space of its own. One that allows it to have some breathing room.

The museum has an excellent cafe and provides a good opportunity to visit nearby attractions in Golden Gate Park.
